EM Programs / Weekend Warriors

Our Weekend Warriors program is an opportunity for individuals to come together as a community to celebrate living life to the fullest.

We stand by the principle that balance in mind, body and spirit is the cornerstone to living a healthy life. Our Weekend Warrior club will present an opportunity for you to take your commitment to wellness one step further: once a month we will be sponsoring outdoor excursions to get you out of the gym and into the outdoors. This will be a chance for you to gain knowledge and experience in activities that you may or may not have experience in. Plus you get to hang out with really cool people!

All activities will be designed to accommodate all fitness levels and because we will repeat the activities, you will have an opportunity to push yourselves and improve your abilities. The staff at Experience Momentum will put these adventures together and provide you with all of the necessary information concerning time, place, activity, gear requirements etc. Please contact Kelly Tysland at kelly@experiencemomentum.org if you have any questions.

Ronald McDonald House Family Meal

This is the house that opens its arms that feels like home that embraces the children that comforts the parents.
This is the house where families meet to eat and sleep, to find their strength and dry tears to look forward with hope to better years.
This is the House that Love Built.

When: Sunday December 7, 2008, 3:00 pm - 7:30 pm
What: Provide a dinner for the children and families at the house. Set up, serve buffet style dinner, eat/talk/play with them, clean up afterwards.

The Ronald McDonald House is truly a home-away-from-home for the families of children undergoing treatment for cancer or other serious illnesses. Families staying at the Ronald McDonald House often experience stress due to the illness or health status of their child. The Family Meal Program offers groups of volunteers the opportunity to extend needed support to these families by providing and preparing a meal at the House.

We can either order food in, cook dishes to bring, or do a combination of both between all of us. This is a really fun opportunity and these kids/families are amazing and an inspiration! Be a part of this awesome afternoon and once we have the volunteers I will give more details on the protocol. Ask questions if you are curious about it and want more information!!!

Hope you can join us!!! Please sign up asap; we need 6-20 volunteers to have this happen. Thanks for your generosity and time!!! Email me or sign up on the sheet at our EM Center.

Chilly Hilly Bike Ride

Jump start this month by taking another step towards better health and experiencing momentum in your life.
The time has come again to gear up for another Weekend Warriors Trip. Last month we headed to Snoqualmie pass for a snowshoeing adventure that was an absolute blast! Thank you to everyone who participated, you made our inaugural trip one to remember.

This month will be a little different, or should I say hilly and a bit chilly. Shanon, Kelly and I have decided to hit the road to Bainbridge Island to complete the Chilly Hilly road bike race. This event will be challenging to anyone who enjoys obstacles and is looking to take their training to the next level. Since Shanon is our only cyclist in the company, Kelly and I will be challenged to push through the 2,675 feet of hill climb throughout this road course. The 33-mile ride ventures around the outskirts of Bainbridge Island during this cold month of February. After reading this month’s trip, let me ask my question again: Are you ready?

Preparation is everything, whether it’s in sports, workouts or even life. You must take the necessary steps to prepare for what lies ahead. Being such a crucial part of intense activity, we would like to offer a training special to those of you who are registered for the chilly hilly. We will provide specialized training to get you ready and in shape for this ride. You will begin immediately and have at least 2 workouts a week prior to the event. The package will be pro-rated based on starting date at $50 per session. Dust off that bike seat and put on those clips, buy some long-johns, put on that Experience Momentum shirt and ride with empride! Create a life that inspires you and join us for the 2008 Chilly Hilly.

The 33-mile route around Bainbridge Island starts with an early morning ferry ride across Puget Sound from Seattle or you can join the crowd directly on Bainbridge Island. Bicycling Magazine named the Chilly Hilly "One of Four Classic Rides" in the nation! Guaranteed to be hilly, chilly and a heck of a lot of fun.

Your Seattle registration fee includes a ferry ticket for you and your bike on the Ferry times listed below:

Your bib is your ferry ticket. If you take an earlier or later ferry, you must pay your own fare. Bicycle capacity per vessel is limited so arrive early. Due to heavy day-of-ride registrations, Cascade Bicycle Club does not insure or guarantee that day-of-event registrants will make their intended ferry. If you must make a particular ferry, we suggest you pre-register for this event before Feb. 13 to have your packet mailed to you. Use the special Clif Bar Chilly Hilly entrance north of the downtown Seattle ferry terminal. For safety, walk your bike onto the ferry and remember to remove or cover your cleats if you go up to the passenger decks (it's the law).

Online registration closes February 20, 2008

Please be aware that Active.com (who bills you) charges a fee of about 7% for this online service.

Description:
Hiking through a wide, level valley in the shadow of looming Kendall Peak to the north and Rampart Ridge to the east would be an ideal outing, if only so many people didn't know about it. Fortunately, a few miles up the trail, the crowds thin—or at least spread out—and snowshoers can get on with the business of learning to travel in a beautiful wilderness valley.

Directions and route:
To get there, from Seattle drive east on Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass to Exit 54, found 2 miles east of the pass summit. Exit I-90, turn left, cross under the freeway, and just a few hundred feet north of the highway interchange, turn right onto a narrow paved road and drive east parallel to the freeway for 1 mile. The trail head is on the left and is just over a bridge.

Equipment needed for this expedition:

  • Gloves (required)
